Aécio Neves, the national president of the PSDB and a federal deputy from Minas Gerais, announced on Tuesday that he will not run for any elective office in the 2026 elections. This decision ends a 40 year streak of holding elective mandates. Neves has previously served as a federal deputy, president of the Chamber of Deputies, governor of Minas Gerais, and senator. He also ran for president in 2014 but lost to Dilma Rousseff of the PT party.
