Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

Cabinet has appointed a new board for the Public Investment Corporation (PIC), naming Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Seiso Mohai as chairperson. The eight non-executive directors include Mohai, Patience Nqetho, Lebogang Mokgabudi, Advocate Gatlelane Ouma Rasethaba, Vivien McMenamin, Moipone Ramoipone, Bajabulile Swazi Tshabalala and Itani Mafune.
The appointments follow a period of governance turmoil characterized by the resignation of former chairperson David Masondo and six non-executive directors. Additionally, chief executive Patrick Dlamini was placed on precautionary suspension; he is currently awaiting a Gauteng High Court judgment regarding the legality of that action. The PIC manages assets valued between R3 trillion and R3.6 trillion for various public entities, including the Government Employees Pension Fund.
Acting Chief Executive Bathandwa Damoyi stated that management's immediate priority is to induct the new board so it can begin its oversight responsibilities without delay. Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni noted that Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will continue driving reforms recommended by the judge Mpati commission.
Several regulatory and legal issues remain ongoing. The Financial Sector Conduct Authority is continuing an investigation into governance failures, and Parliament has received protected disclosures raising concerns about political interference. Furthermore, Cosatu parliamentary coordinator Matthew Parks has called for the Special Investigating Unit, the auditor-general and the Hawks to institute a comprehensive investigation of all PIC investments to address corruption and state capture.
Outlets with a center-left lean frame the event by highlighting that key governance issues remain unresolved and noting reports of political interference. Outlets with a center-right lean frame the appointments as a step toward restoring stability while emphasizing calls for investigations into corruption.
How each side framed it
- Centre-left
- Focuses on the persistence of governance challenges and reports of political interference despite the new appointments.
- Centre-right
- Frames the board appointment as a move toward institutional stability while highlighting demands for anti-corruption probes.
