Chad le Clos Sets Medal Record Amidst Strong Performances at Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

South African swimmer Chad le Clos has become the most decorated athlete in the history of the Commonwealth Games. Le Clos earned his record 21st medal after winning bronze in the men's 4x100 medley relay during the 2026 Games in Glasgow. His career total now consists of seven golds, five silvers and nine bronzes across five Games.

In athletics, Nigeria saw significant progress on Thursday. Tobi Amusan qualified for the women's 100m hurdles final with a time of 12.19 seconds; this is the fastest performance ever recorded in a Commonwealth Games race for that event, although it was wind assisted. Nigerian athletes Edidiong Udo and Samuel Ogazi reached the men's 400m final, while Ella Onojuvwevwo qualified for the women's 400m final. Nigeria also holds seven gold medals, aided by Goodness Nwachukwu who won a world record gold in the women's F42-44/F61-64 discus.

Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem has also advanced to the final of his event. The 2022 gold medalist recorded a season best of 78.63 metres in the qualifying round on Monday. He will compete against athletes including India's Neeraj Chopra and Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga, who led the rankings with an 82.84m throw.
