China Condemns India Over Naming of Sites in Disputed Border Region

China has condemned India after the Indian government formally announced names for 27 sites in the disputed border region of Arunachal Pradesh. The list, issued by the Survey of India, includes 21 land areas, four mountain passes, a high altitude lake, and a memorial. These locations include the strategic Thag La pass, where the 1962 border war began, and Longju, the site of a 1959 confrontation. India's Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the names were issued to ensure accurate recognition and improve awareness of the geographical and historical significance of the sites. Beijing has long referred to the region as Zangnan, or southern Tibet. The announcement occurred one day after officials from both nations held working level consultations in New Delhi to discuss border management and peace along the Line of Actual Control.
