CNG Prices Increase by ₹3.89 per kg in Delhi-NCR

Compressed natural gas (CNG) prices in Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) increased by ₹3.89 per kg on Saturday. This price hike brings the retail cost in the national capital to ₹86.98 per kg. According to Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the revised rates apply across all geographical areas supplied by the company, including Noida, Gurugram, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and Meerut.

IGL attributed the price increase to a sharp rise in international liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices. The company stated that imported LNG accounts for a large share of the gas used to supply CNG. The surge in global prices is linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has disrupted energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, and increased demand for gas storage in Europe ahead of the winter season. IGL noted that this calibrated revision was necessary to partially offset higher input costs and ensure the reliability of supplies.

Reports indicate that the price hike will increase operating expenses for those relying on CNG powered vehicles, such as taxis, auto rickshaws, and commercial vehicles. Some drivers have described the rising costs as an unbearable financial burden that makes it difficult to support their families. IGL countered this by stating that Delhi maintains some of the lowest CNG retail prices in the world and that consumers have been largely insulated from the full volatility of international spot LNG prices.
