Oil marketing companies reduced the price of commercial liquified petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders on August 1, 2026. The price of the 19 kg cylinder dropped by approximately 200 rupees across the country, with specific reductions of 202 rupees in Delhi and 209 rupees in Kolkata. In Delhi, the price now stands at 2,738 rupees per cylinder, while in Kolkata it is 2,872 rupees. Other city rates include 2,691 rupees in Mumbai and 2,906 rupees in Chennai.

This marks the second downward revision since a conflict in West Asia began to ease. A previous reduction of approximately 183 rupees occurred on July 1. These declines follow a period of significant price hikes, which totaled about 1,345 rupees across four tranches since March 7. While commercial prices fell, the price of domestic LPG remained unchanged. However, 5 kg free trade LPG cylinders, which primarily serve migrant workers, decreased by about 46 rupees.

In other energy price movements, aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices increased by 5 rupees per litre to 115 rupees per litre for domestic scheduled carriers. The government has stated that petroleum product prices in India are linked to international market prices.

Reporting on the event varied by political lean. The center left source focused on the broader economic context of the West Asia crisis and the specific impact on migrant workers. The center right source emphasized the positive reactions from small business owners and vendors who welcomed the relief.
