Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Every outlet covering this story shares the same political lean; read with that in mind.
US President Donald Trump expressed his support on Sunday for the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, a military pact signed on August 7 by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan. Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump called the agreement a big, bold, and important first step that demonstrates how the Middle East is coming together to defend itself in a more meaningful way.
The agreement establishes a collective defense clause where an attack on any member is regarded as an attack on all. This provision is similar to Article 5 of NATO. The pact aims to strengthen collective deterrence and promote regional stability through the cooperation of high level ministers, joint military exercises, and expanded collaboration within the defense industry.
The treaty comes amid heightened regional tensions and a US Iran war involving Iranian missile launches against Gulf oil exporting countries and attacks by Iran backed Houthi rebels. The three signatory nations also committed to participating in efforts to resolve the conflict between the United States and Iran.
