  • A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.

Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.

Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average reached a new record close on Wednesday, rising 263.18 points or 0.49 percent to 54,349.06. This growth was driven by reports of progress in peace negotiations between Iran and Oman, which could grant Tehran control over ships entering the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz. While the Dow rose, the S&P 500 fell slightly by 0.17 percent to 7,723.52, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.83 percent to 26,363.44. The Nasdaq decline followed quarterly results from SpaceX and AMD. SpaceX shares fell 13.6 percent due to investor concerns regarding the sustainability of AI spending, despite the company reporting nearly doubled revenue. AMD shares fell 7 percent as investors sought more concrete evidence that AI investments would accelerate growth.

Other contributors to the Dow's rise included Amgen, which saw a 4.6 percent increase following a 9 percent rise in second quarter sales, and Disney, which rose 3.6 percent after exceeding third quarter profit expectations. Eli Lilly also climbed 4.9 percent after raising its full year revenue forecast. In economic data, the ADP report showed a slowdown in U.S. private sector job growth for July, while the ISM non manufacturing PMI rose slightly to 54.1, which was below economist estimates but indicated growth.

Oil markets remained volatile with mixed directions. Brent crude for October closed at 79.45 dollars per barrel, a slight increase of 0.11 percent, while WTI for September fell 0.73 percent to 75.22 dollars per barrel. Market volatility was influenced by reports of Houthi missile attacks on Saudi tankers and reports that Iran and Oman are awaiting final approval from the Iranian Supreme Leader to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump stated that progress has been made in talks but warned that Iran must reach an agreement or be hit hard. Additionally, U.S. oil inventories increased by 2.5 million barrels last week, contrary to expectations of a decrease.
