Eduardo Braide Leads Maranhão Gubernatorial Race as Candidates Detail Agricultural Plans

Eduardo Braide of the PSD leads the race for the government of Maranhão with 44 percent of intentions to vote, according to a Quaest poll released Monday. Orleans Brandão of the MDB follows with 25 percent, while Felipe Camarão of the PT holds 6 percent. Other candidates include Roberto Rocha of the PRTB at 3 percent and André Luis of Missão at 1 percent. Indecisive voters account for 17 percent, and blank or null votes total 4 percent. The survey, conducted between August 20 and 23 among 900 voters, has a margin of error of 3 percentage points. This poll follows a period of political tension where Governor Carlos Brandão indicated his nephew, Orleans Brandão, as his successor, which conflicted with the PT's initial desire to support Camarão.

Simultaneously, candidates conducted campaign activities on Monday focusing on agriculture and agribusiness. Eduardo Braide visited Pedreiras, where he proposed stimulating the industrialization of local production to generate jobs. Felipe Camarão met with his team in São Luís to discuss investing in technology and logistics to move beyond the export of commodities. Roberto Rocha campaigned in the southern region, specifically in Balsas, where he proposed a railway link between Estrelo and Balsas to improve production flow. Saulo Arcangeli of the PSTU held an event at the Terminal da Praia Grande in São Luís, advocating for the restriction of pesticides in family farming and the creation of public purchasing programs for school meals.
