Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan defeated Naomi Osaka in a comeback victory to advance to the semifinals of the Toronto WTA 1000, also known as the Canadian Open. Rybakina won the match 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, firing 13 aces during the contest. The match lasted two hours and 33 minutes and marked the first time the two players met on tour.
Rybakina will face fourth-ranked Coco Gauff in the semifinals. Gauff advanced to the round after Belinda Bencic withdrew due to a hip injury. The other semifinal will feature Iga Swiatek and Elina Svitolina.
