Recent missile and drone attacks have resulted in several deaths in both Russia and Ukraine. In the Russian region of Belgorod, a Ukrainian missile strike killed at least six people in the village of Koloskovo and injured four others, including a 14 year old. Additional reports indicate a woman was killed by Ukrainian drones in an industrial area in Astrakhan. Russian authorities claimed to have intercepted 205 drones across the country on Monday, following a previous day where over 800 were reported downed. Some debris reportedly hit refineries and facilities belonging to the e-commerce company Wildberries, resulting in at least eight deaths.
Simultaneously, Russian forces launched extensive attacks across Ukraine. At least nine people were killed and 43 injured over a 24 hour period. In the Odesa region, a jet powered drone struck a post office in a shopping center, and separate strikes hit port infrastructure in Izmail and Odesa, damaging a vessel flying the Togolese flag. Other casualties were reported in the Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Ukrainian officials stated that 128 drones were launched against the country overnight, with 106 intercepted by air defenses.
Data from the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission and the NGO Acled indicate a significant rise in civilian casualties. July was reported as the deadliest month for civilians since March 2022. On the ground, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the capture of two more villages in the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions, though the overall Russian advance is described as slow.
