Flávio Bolsonaro Launches Northeast Campaign in Alagoas

Presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) arrived in Maceió, Alagoas, on Tuesday, August 25, to begin the first leg of his campaign in the Northeast. Accompanied by his running mate, Federal Deputy Alfredo Gaspar (PL), Bolsonaro confirmed his support for João Henrique Caldas (JHC) of the PSDB for the governorship of Alagoas. He had previously endorsed JHC's wife, Marina Cândia, for a seat in the Senate. During his visit, Bolsonaro promised investments in clean energy, agriculture, and infrastructure, including a proposed train connecting Northeast capitals. He also credited the administration of Jair Bolsonaro with completing the São Francisco River transposition and maintaining the Bolsa Família program.

A recent Quaest poll conducted between August 20 and 23 shows President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva leading in Alagoas with 44 percent of the intention of votes in the first round, while Flávio Bolsonaro follows with 29 percent. In a scenario including Pablo Marçal, Lula's support rises to 45 percent and Bolsonaro's to 30 percent. The same poll indicates that 52 percent of Alagoan voters approve of the Lula government, while 40 percent disapprove.
