Former CIA Official Julia Curlee Details Experience in Trump Administration

Julia Curlee, a former CIA official and National Security Council director, has spoken out about her termination and her experiences during the second term of President Donald Trump. Curlee, who was the first CIA officer to transition openly and remain with the agency in 2013, described a chaotic environment and a purge of national security officials. She stated that an anti transgender policy crackdown prohibited her from using the bathrooms in federal buildings, forcing her to leave the White House to find a usable facility. Curlee also noted a palpable fear among her former colleagues, particularly those in the LGBTQ community, who she claims have been fired in public.

Despite these challenges, Curlee described her professional relationship with Vice President Mike Pence as respectful. She recalled a moment when Pence held her mother's hand and told her she must be very proud of her daughter. Curlee mentioned that she was warned by her boss that she would be targeted as a transgender woman and was encouraged by colleagues to resign, but she chose to stay out of a sense of duty. Her tenure ended following a post on X by right wing activist Laura Loomer, who identified a transgender Biden holdover working in the NSC intel office and asked followers for the person's name. Curlee believes the post did not originate with Loomer.
