Former Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has spoken publicly for the first time since his resignation on July 25, which followed weeks of student protests over the NEET paper leak controversy. Speaking at events in Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur, Pradhan stated that he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and requested permission to resign to acknowledge the aspirations of the younger generation. He claimed that Gen Z protesters were misled by some people during the unrest.

Reports indicate that the protests, which included demonstrations by the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar, created a significant political crisis for the government. While some sources note that the government initially considered changing Pradhan's portfolio as a compromise, the protesters insisted on his resignation. Pradhan defended his record, stating that the government acted immediately by handing the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation, cancelling the test, and conducting a re-examination on June 21.

Opposition figures and political rivals have offered different interpretations of the event. Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition, demanded that Prime Minister Modi resign, while members of the BJD alleged that the government's handling of the protests involved police atrocities and that the resignation was a result of these failures.
