Former Mossad Chief Yossi Cohen Reveals Israeli Intelligence Operations at Iran's Fordo Site

Former Mossad director Yossi Cohen revealed on Tuesday at the Galilee Forum in Safed that Israeli operatives toured Iran's Fordo uranium enrichment facility many times to understand the site. Cohen stated that the subsequent bombing of the facility by the United States was the fulfillment of all his dreams. The Fordo site, along with facilities in Isfahan and Natanz, was targeted during a 12 day war between Israel and Iran in June 2025.

During his remarks, Cohen argued that uranium enriched to 60 percent is still far from becoming a bomb. This claim appears to contradict some experts who suggest that 60 percent enrichment can be moved to weapons grade in a matter of days or weeks. While U.S. President Donald Trump asserted that the June 2025 operation obliterated Iran's nuclear capability, the exact extent of the damage remains unknown. Iranian officials claimed the damage was limited and that they had already removed significant equipment and materials.

Reports indicate that 440 kilograms of highly enriched uranium were stored at the facilities. While some reports suggest this material was buried, Israel believes some may have been transferred to the nearby Pickaxe Mountain site, which was not hit during the conflict. Cohen previously mentioned in January that Israel first became aware of the activities at Fordo in 2010 and had considered a massive operation to target it, though the plan was eventually shelved in favor of preparing for an IDF strike.
