France to Accelerate Air Defense Missile Deliveries to Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged to accelerate the delivery of interceptor missiles to Ukraine following a phone call with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The announcement comes amid a critical shortage of air defenses and a surge in Russian strikes against civilian targets. Macron stated on social media that providing the necessary means to defend Ukrainian skies is essential to thwart Russian aggression. Zelenskyy confirmed the agreement to speed up deliveries and thanked Macron for confirming France's readiness to provide licenses for missile production. These licenses include the production of SCALP cruise missiles and ASTER missiles for SAMP/T air defense systems.

The commitment follows a deadly Russian drone attack on a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih, which killed at least 15 to 16 people and wounded over 100 others. Macron expressed horror and emotion regarding the attack, describing Russia's tactics as an attempt to break Ukraine through terror. Other recent strikes include a ballistic missile attack in Kyiv that killed 15 people on August 20 and further strikes in the Odesa and Zaporizhzhia regions.

In addition to French support, Zelenskyy has been coordinating with international partners. He met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul to discuss a drone deal for the joint production of BARS jet powered drones and spoke with former U.S. envoy General Keith Kellogg regarding the urgent need for Patriot system interceptors. Meanwhile, Russian officials reported that Ukrainian drones have targeted Russian infrastructure, including an Ozon warehouse and a city bus in Crimea, resulting in several casualties.
