South Korean chip startup FuriosaAI announced Wednesday that it will supply its second generation neural processing unit, known as RNGD, for a new artificial intelligence data center project in Stockholm, Sweden. The company plans to provide an initial batch of 1,800 units, with the total deployment expected to reach or exceed 8,800 units as the facility expands.

The project involves a 15 megawatt capacity facility developed in partnership with US AI infrastructure company I/ONX HPC and data center developer Velox. According to the plan, a 2 MW first phase is scheduled to begin operations in early 2027, followed by an 8 MW addition later that year, eventually reaching the full 15 MW capacity. The RNGD accelerators will be installed in I/ONX HPC Symphony SixtyFour servers and will operate in a heterogeneous computing system alongside graphics processing units. In this setup, the RNGD chips will handle large language model and agentic AI inference workloads while GPUs manage model training.

FuriosaAI will provide the chips and software stack, while I/ONX HPC manages system integration and the AI platform, and Velox handles the development and operation of the facility. The center is intended to support AI inference for companies and cloud operators across the European Union. CEO Baek Jun-ho stated that the project is a significant step in deploying AI inference infrastructure at a large scale in Europe, citing power efficiency and sustainability as key competitive factors.
