- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
German security authorities are investigating a cache of handguns and ammunition discovered in a forest near Berlin last year. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt confirmed that federal prosecutors have opened an investigation into the suspicion of preparing a serious act of violence that threatens national security. A suspect was arrested in Romania last year and is being investigated for espionage and planning violent attacks. Dobrindt described the suspect as a low level agent who was unaware of the command structure above him.
While Dobrindt stated that authorities could not rule out the involvement of foreign powers, multiple reports from German media and international outlets link the cache to Russian intelligence. Some reports suggest the weapons were intended for targeted assassinations of Ukrainian interests, opposition figures, or weapons contractor executives on German soil. To gather intelligence, police rendered the weapons unusable and placed the site under surveillance for several months, though no one was seen attempting to retrieve the arms.
This discovery follows other security incidents, including the recent finding of an explosives laden drone at Leipzig Airport. Russia has rejected these allegations, calling them a fabricated provocation and part of a wave of anti Russian hysteria. The investigation occurs amid broader tensions regarding hybrid warfare, including a separate ongoing investigation into the 2022 sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline.
Outlets with a center lean focused on the official government statements and the broader context of hybrid warfare. Outlets with a center left lean provided more specific details regarding the potential targets of the attacks and connected the event to a wider pattern of Russian sabotage and Ukrainian logistics.
