Heavy Rain Triggers Work From Home Advisory in Gurugram After Severe Waterlogging

The District Disaster Management authority in Gurugram issued a work from home advisory for Tuesday, August 25, following intense rainfall that caused massive traffic snarls and waterlogging across the city. The notice, issued by the deputy commissioner, applies to all corporate offices, government and private schools, and institutions. The advisory aims to reduce traffic congestion and allow civic agencies to perform repair and maintenance on roads and drains.

Heavy rain on Monday led the India Meteorological Department to issue an orange alert for Gurugram and Faridabad, though the alert was later downgraded to yellow for the Delhi NCR region. Waterlogging ranging from ankle to knee deep was reported in several areas, including Sector 10 near Euro International School, South City 1, Sector 69, Sector 52A, and the Airia Mall stretch on Sohna Road. The rain left school buses stranded in water and caused traffic jams up to four kilometers long on major routes such as NH 48, IFFCO Chowk, and Sohna Road.

Traffic police teams and NHAI workers were deployed to manage vehicle movement and implement route diversions. While center right sources noted that civic agencies had conducted desilting and floated tenders for sump wells, they also reported that the flooding raised questions regarding the monsoon preparedness of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority.
