The Korea Meteorological Administration issued the highest level heat wave warning for the entirety of Seoul on Tuesday as daytime temperatures were expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius. The warning was extended to the northeastern and northwestern areas of the city as of 11 a.m. following previous warnings for the southeastern and southwestern regions. This highest level alert is triggered when the maximum daily temperature reaches 39 degrees Celsius or higher, or when the highest perceived temperature reaches 38 degrees Celsius or higher in areas where the perceived temperature has been 35 degrees Celsius or higher for two or more consecutive days.

The warning also expanded to cover various regions in Gyeonggi Province, including Goyang, Anseong, southern Paju, and Yongin. Additionally, highest level warnings were issued for parts of the southwestern Jeolla provinces, including Jeonju, Jangseong, and Gokseong. Other regions across the country, including parts of Gangwon, Jeju Island, and Incheon, were placed under standard heat wave warnings.

Government data indicates that 18 additional heat related illness cases were reported in Seoul on Monday. This brings the city's cumulative total since May 15 to 185 cases, including two deaths. In response, the Seoul metropolitan government has designated approximately 4,000 heat shelters and implemented measures such as watering roads. The interior ministry also sent text messages urging citizens to stay indoors, drink water, and rest in cool places.
