IDF Condemns Israeli Civilians Taking Control of Palestinian Homes in West Bank

The Israeli military issued a statement on Tuesday condemning the illegal and reprehensible establishment of settler outposts and the seizure of Palestinian homes and land in the Qusra and Jalud areas of the West Bank. The IDF announced a closed military zone order for anyone who is not a resident of the area and stated that any active duty soldiers or reservists found to be involved in these incidents will face disciplinary action.

Reports indicate that a Palestinian family in Qusra has been prevented from entering or leaving their home since Sunday due to the presence of settlers. In a separate incident last month in Jalud, a family fled their home after being surrounded by settlers for more than two weeks; settlers remain in that property. While the IDF has demolished two of thirteen illegal outposts established in the area since last month, the military has not explained why other structures remain.

On Monday, an incident occurred at a checkpoint where IDF soldiers stopped a coordinated Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance. The military stated that Israeli civilians attempted to use the ambulance as cover to enter the closed military zone. The vehicle was subsequently inspected by the IDF and the Israel Police.

Outlets with a center lean emphasized the IDF's failure to demolish the outposts and highlighted reports of soldiers praying with settlers. In contrast, the outlet with a center right lean focused on the IDF's condemnation of the activity and the specific details regarding the attempted breach of the military zone via ambulance.
