- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
American investor Joshua Kushner has admitted that he would not have engaged in a proposed FIFA economic project if he had anticipated the scale of the negative reactions it triggered. The plan, which was eventually abandoned, involved the creation of a commercial entity called FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) that would have opened the World Cup to private investors. Kushner, whose firm Thrive Capital worked on the project for months, stated in a communiqué that he and his team misjudged the political dynamics of international football.
Kushner defended the motivations behind the FFE, arguing that the goal was to distribute capital and equity more equitably among FIFA's 211 member countries. He suggested that the project would have provided significant investment for developing nations to support grassroots football and talent. However, the proposal faced intense opposition. The UEFA argued that the plan was a means for FIFA President Gianni Infantino and a small circle of associates to profit from the organization's most valuable assets at the expense of the wider football community.
While the project is dead, the fallout continues. UEFA has indicated it is preparing a legal complaint in Switzerland for unfair management against Infantino. Additionally, reports indicate that UEFA has requested a New York judge to compel Kushner and Thrive Capital to provide documents and testimony. Kushner is also currently involved in a record 12.5 billion dollar bid to purchase the Los Angeles Lakers alongside former Disney CEO Bob Iger.
