Iran Maintains Stretto di Hormuz Closure Amid Tensions with United States

The Strait of Hormuz remains closed and will not reopen until the United States changes its attitude and respects its commitments, according to Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council. This statement follows a post by Donald Trump on Truth Social where he shared an image of the strait and described it as new American territory. Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has defended a recent Memorandum of Understanding with the United States as the best possible agreement based on national interest and dignity. Pezeshkian stated that the memorandum contains no clauses indicating that Iran surrendered, though the 60 day deadline to end the war and reach a nuclear agreement expired last week with the two parties remaining far apart on the reopening of the strait.

In a televised speech, Pezeshkian described the current state as a large scale economic, military, and security war. He acknowledged severe economic problems and inflation within Iranian society but rejected claims that the country would collapse like Venezuela. Additionally, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi called on France and the United Kingdom to stop arming Israel, citing warnings from over 100 former high level diplomats regarding potential ethnic cleansing in Palestine.
