- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Israeli drone strikes killed at least two people and wounded several others in the Gaza Strip on Thursday. One of the deceased was identified as Jamal Abu Kamil, the 43 year old head of the civil police force in Gaza City, who was killed when three missiles hit his vehicle on al-Rashid Street. A second person was killed in a strike targeting a motorbike in Khan Younis. These fatalities follow a period of reduced air activity after the United States pressed Israel to curb strikes.
The Israeli military stated that it targeted the individuals to remove threats, claiming they were Hamas commanders. Gaza's police force denied these claims, stating that Abu Kamil was committed to his police duties and had no connection to other activities. Hamas condemned the killings as brutal crimes intended to spread chaos.
Outlets of different political leans framed the events differently. A center left source described the strike on Abu Kamil as an assassination and highlighted Israel's violation of a ceasefire. A left leaning source focused on the military context, noting that these were the first fatalities since the IDF chief was required to approve strikes except in cases of imminent danger.
How each side framed it
- Left
- Framed the events within the context of new IDF operational restrictions and U.S. pressure.
- Centre-left
- Framed the events as assassinations and violations of a ceasefire by Israeli forces.
