Jamnagar Police Recover Skeletal Remains After Wife Allegedly Faked Husband's Move to Australia

Police in Jamnagar have arrested a woman, her alleged lover, and an associate for the murder of Jignesh Mavadiya, whose body was found buried beneath a factory floor after his wife claimed he had moved to Australia for work. The suspects, identified as Prithvi alias Bhumiben, Nilesh Kachhatia, and Balveer Verma, allegedly poisoned Mavadiya with cyanide laced liquor on May 31, 2024. They then buried the body in a 12 foot deep pit in the Dared GIDC industrial area, sealing the site with soil and a concrete layer approximately one foot thick.

The crime came to light after Mavadiya's brother, Ashok, filed a complaint on July 26. Family suspicions grew when a cousin planning a trip to Australia asked Prithvi for Jignesh's contact details and address, which she refused to provide. For more than two years, Prithvi had maintained that her husband was working in Australia and could not communicate because his employer prohibited phone calls; one report notes she further claimed he would return to India after securing permanent residency.

Following the complaint, police questioned the suspects, who allegedly confessed to the murder. On Thursday, investigators used power tools to drill through the concrete layer and recover skeletal remains believed to be those of Mavadiya. These remains have been sent for forensic examination and DNA profiling to confirm the identity of the deceased. The accused have been booked under charges including murder, criminal conspiracy, and the destruction of evidence.
