Lean is where the outlet sits in its OWN country's politics, never on one global scale.

Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

The Japanese yen surged rapidly against the U.S. dollar in the New York foreign exchange market on the 30th. After 11 p.m. Japan time, the exchange rate dropped from the mid-162 yen range to below 158 yen, with some reports placing it in the upper 157 yen range per dollar. This rapid appreciation of approximately 5 yen has led analysts and financial markets to suspect that the Japanese government and the Bank of Japan may have intervened in the market to counter recent yen depreciation.
