The Kerala government has granted state honors to Rajesh R, a swimming and disaster rescue instructor who drowned while saving a stranded farmer during recent floods in the Kannur district. Chief Minister V D Satheesan visited the family of Rajesh R in Thiruvananthapuram and announced that the government would fund the completion of the man's under construction house. The incident occurred on August 1 when Rajesh R gave his life jacket to 61 year old farmer S Benny, who was struggling against a strong current. Rajesh R was swept away by the river and his body was recovered on August 4.
