Keralam Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala directed the Crime Branch on Friday, August 28, 2026, to verify reports that fugitive Sukumara Kurup is still alive. Kurup has been wanted since 1984 for the murder of Chacko in Mavelikara, which was allegedly part of a scheme to fake his own death to claim life insurance. The case was later adapted into a Malayalam film titled Kurup starring Dulquer Salmaan.
