Authorities in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson have urged residents to leave the area due to intensifying Russian attacks on critical infrastructure. Military governor Oleksandr Prokudin specifically called for families with children and the elderly to evacuate if they have the means to do so. The warnings follow a series of strikes on the Kherson thermal power plant. According to the state energy company Naftogaz, four glide bombs struck the facility overnight, destroying all heat and power generating equipment. This followed a previous strike on the same plant on August 26.
Prokudin stated that the city could be left without electricity and heating for long periods during the upcoming winter. He noted that 170 aerial cluster bombs have been launched over the region since July 1, a figure he claims exceeds the total for the first half of the year. Despite the danger, local authorities report that more than 60,000 residents, including over 4,000 children, remain in the city. Naftogaz reported that employees were in shelters during the most recent attack and were not injured.
