Lula Predicts Congressional Approval of End to 6x1 Work Scale

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated on Saturday that Congress is expected to approve the proposal to end the 6x1 work scale next week. Speaking at an event in Belo Horizonte, Lula argued that the change would allow men and women more time for family, children, and personal lives. The proposal, which has already passed the Chamber of Deputies, is currently with the Senate Constitution and Justice Commission. Senator Omar Aziz has presented a favorable report on the text. The measure aims to progressively reduce the maximum weekly work hours from 44 to 40, establish two days of paid rest, and prohibit salary reductions.

The advancement of the proposal follows meetings between Lula and the presidents of the Chamber, Hugo Motta, and the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre. Both sources note that the end of the 6x1 scale has been prioritized for the upcoming legislative session. During his speech, Lula also emphasized national sovereignty, asserting that no foreign government would interfere in Brazil while he is president. He expressed a goal for Brazil to be considered a developed and respected nation by the end of a potential fourth term.

In addition to labor and sovereignty issues, Lula spoke about women's participation in politics and government. He noted that women's representation in government management roles increased from 29 percent in the previous administration to 38 percent under his leadership, though he stated the goal should be 50 percent or more. He also highlighted the National Pact against Femicide, claiming his government has approved 11 laws, four decrees, and three ordinances to combat the issue.
