Brazil soccer star Neymar has announced his retirement from international soccer after the national team was eliminated in the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Neymar ends his career as Brazil's all time leading scorer with 80 goals and 130 appearances, having participated in four World Cups. His final match for the national team ended in a 2-1 loss to Norway, where he scored a penalty goal during ten minutes of stoppage time after Erling Haaland scored twice for Norway.

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has expressed regret over tactical decisions made during the match against Norway.
