Nurse Apprehended for Abusing Elderly Residents in Mar del Plata Nursing Home

A 37 year old nurse named Nicolás Cichero was apprehended after being accused of insulting, mistreating, and injuring elderly women at the David nursing home in Mar del Plata, Argentina. The incident came to light when a shift supervisor noticed one of the residents complaining of pain and discovered injuries on her face, specifically around the mouth.

Security camera footage from the facility provided evidence for the prosecution. The recordings show Cichero attempting to force food into a resident who resisted opening her mouth; at which point he hit her lips with a spoon. The footage further documents him violently moving the woman in her wheelchair and later forcing her into bed while repeatedly telling her to die and using other insults.

Cichero has been charged with minor injuries. While he was initially apprehended by police, the judiciary ordered his release as the investigation continues. In response to the incident, a group of local citizens reportedly traveled to Cichero's home in an attempt to take justice into their own hands, though they only encountered his mother.

Authorities from the Buenos Aires Police and municipal and provincial agencies have conducted evidence collection at the facility and are reviewing its operating permits.
