Palestinian Journalists Syndicate Reports Widespread Israeli Violations

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has reported a high volume of attacks by Israeli forces and settlers against Palestinian media workers. A report covering the first six months of the year documented 467 violations, including the deaths of eight journalists. A separate report focused on July alone recorded 108 attacks in the occupied West Bank, which included detentions, beatings, and the seizure of equipment. These figures contribute to a broader death toll since October 2023, with the Committee to Protect Journalists reporting 209 deaths and other rights groups documenting more than 270 journalists killed.

Violations include the use of tear gas, stun grenades, and the closure of media outlets. The syndicate noted that Israeli settlers were responsible for approximately 15 percent of the cases in the first half of the year. Additionally, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International stated that the April death of journalist Amal Khalil in southern Lebanon should be investigated as a possible war crime.

Israeli authorities reject these allegations. The Israel Defense Forces stated that they categorically reject claims of deliberately attacking journalists and maintain that operations target only legitimate military objectives in accordance with international law.
