Parliamentary Proceedings Marred by Opposition Protests Over Police Action and Temple Donations

The Lok Sabha is scheduled to consider the Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026 and the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. These legislative efforts coincide with ongoing disruptions in both Houses of Parliament as the Opposition demands discussions on several urgent matters. Key points of contention include the police action against students during a Cockroach Janta Party protest march and a controversy involving Ram Temple donations.

Opposition members have called for statements from Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the security crackdown on the July 20 protest. Congress MP Manickam Tagore submitted an adjournment motion seeking details on the use of pellet guns, tear gas, and shock batons, as well as the number of students injured or detained. Additionally, the INDIA bloc and Mallikarjun Kharge have suggested the government is avoiding a debate on the Ram Mandir issue and police brutality.
