PL Seeks Judicial Authorization for Michelle Bolsonaro to Join Flávio Bolsonaro's Presidential Campaign

The Liberal Party (PL) has requested judicial authorization to replace Michelle Bolsonaro in her role providing medical care for former President Jair Bolsonaro. According to PL President Valdemar Costa Neto, this move is intended to free the former first lady to focus on her own campaign for the Senate in the Federal District and to support Flávio Bolsonaro's campaign for the presidency. Costa Neto stated that Michelle's charisma is crucial for Flávio's candidacy and noted that Flávio's polling numbers improved following a reconciliation between the two. He explained that the request for a substitute caregiver is necessary because Jair Bolsonaro requires constant attention due to a dangerous hiccuping problem related to his health history.

Michelle Bolsonaro recently posted a behind the scenes video on social media showing her recording campaign material with Flávio Bolsonaro. This public appearance follows a period of conflict in June when Michelle claimed she had been humiliated by the senator. The two reconciled in July after Flávio issued a public apology. While center right sources describe the reconciliation as a strategic move to unify the bolsonarismo movement, center left coverage focuses on the timeline of their public disagreement and subsequent reconciliation.

Valdemar Costa Neto also addressed the political implications of the alliance. He suggested that a victory for Flávio Bolsonaro would provide the political power necessary to reverse the legal situation of Jair Bolsonaro and potentially release individuals imprisoned following the events of January 8, 2023. Additionally, Costa Neto mentioned that while Pablo Marçal is a potential figure, legal impediments make his presidential run unlikely.
