PM Modi Announces AI Training and Free Coaching for Youth in Independence Day Address

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Indian government will provide artificial intelligence (AI) skill training to 10 million youth over the next year and establish a network of free online coaching for competitive examinations. Speaking from the Red Fort on India's 80th Independence Day, Modi stated that the free coaching initiative aims to reduce the financial burden on poor and middle class families. He also announced a nationwide talent hunt for children aged 5 to 16 to prepare for the 2036 Olympics, which India is bidding to host.

During his 75 minute speech, Modi introduced a reform framework called Saptadhara, or seven streams of strength, to guide India toward becoming a developed nation (Viksit Bharat) by 2047. These seven pillars include manufacturing, agriculture and food processing, technology and innovation, Gati Shakti for connectivity, defense, a green blue economy, and soft power. He specifically highlighted the need for India to become a global hub for semiconductor chips and a leader in green hydrogen and deep sea exploration.

Modi also warned against dimaagi Naxals, or intellectual Naxals, whom he described as individuals with a Maoist mindset seeking to create violence and anarchy. He contrasted this with the armed Naxal movement, which he claimed the government had effectively countered.

Center left framing characterized the promises of AI training and free coaching as moves to appease the youth following recent protests over exam leaks and recruitment irregularities. Center sources noted the tension of the address, mentioning that the speech occurred in the shadow of youth protests that had previously led to the resignation of a Union Minister.
