Police launch murder investigation after woman's body found in Liverpool park

Merseyside Police have launched a murder investigation after the body of an unidentified woman was found in a black bin bag in Stanley Park, Liverpool. The discovery was made by a passerby in the walled garden area of the park at approximately 5.25pm on Friday, August 28. Police believe the woman was in her 70s and that her body may have remained undiscovered at the location for a number of weeks.

The woman is described as white, approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall, of small build, with strawberry blonde hair. She was wearing a pink Nike T-shirt. While a postmortem was conducted on Saturday, August 29, the results have been withheld for investigation reasons. Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson described the incident as a shocking crime and stated that extensive enquiries, including CCTV and house to house searches, are ongoing.

Assistant Chief Constable Andy Ryan noted that the park is a popular green space for families and dog walkers, suggesting that visitors may have seen something suspicious without reporting it. A mobile police station has been established in the park to maintain a visible presence and gather information. Police have checked missing person reports in Merseyside and elsewhere, but no identification has been made. They are urging the public to report any acquaintances or family members they have not heard from recently.
