President Murmu Addresses Nation on Eve of 80th Independence Day

President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation on Friday eve of India's 80th Independence Day, outlining a vision for a Viksit Bharat by 2047. The President announced that the government is taking comprehensive steps to reform public examinations to curb unfair means and increase transparency for students. She highlighted several national achievements, including making India Naxal free and lifting more than 25 crore people out of poverty. Murmu also noted that 59 crore account holders have joined the Jan Dhan Yojana and that the target of creating 3 crore Lakhpati Didis has been achieved, with a new goal to create 3 crore more. Regarding national security, the President praised the Indian armed forces for Operation Sindoor, which she described as a precise operation against terrorism. She further stated that the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty with a country that harbours terrorism was a decisive step in the interest of the nation and its farmers. On the digital front, Murmu claimed that India possesses the best digital infrastructure in the world and leads in real time digital transactions. She also mentioned the inclusion of Sarnath and 12 Maratha military forts in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The address was broadcast on Akashvani and Doordarshan ahead of the Prime Minister's scheduled speech at the Red Fort on August 15.
