Right-wing commentator TG Mohandas taken into custody over inflammatory remarks

The Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Police took right-wing political commentator TG Mohandas into custody from his residence in Mattancherry, Kochi, on Sunday. The action follows a case registered over videos uploaded to his YouTube channel, Pathrika, regarding protests against NEET paper leaks at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Police officials stated that the videos were intended to disturb public peace and create fear among the public.

In the videos, Mohandas allegedly stated that if he were in charge of the protest, he would impose a curfew and open fire on the crowd after three warnings to disperse. He claimed that while some people would die or be injured, the situation would be under control within four hours. He further alleged that secular women participating in such protests enjoy being gangraped and that there would be no complaints because they like it.

The RSS distanced itself from the statements, with official K B Sreekumar stating that the comments were Mohandas's personal thoughts and that the organization does not agree with views that should be condemned in the highest possible manner. The BJP termed the police action discriminatory and accused the Kerala government of using the incident to divert attention from other issues, including flood relief lapses.

Mohandas was taken to a government hospital for a medical examination before being transported to Thiruvananthapuram. He was booked under sections 192 and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, section 66 of the IT Act, and section 120(o) of the Kerala Police Act. Complaints were filed by leaders of the Students Federation of India and the All India Students Federation. AICC general secretary K C Venugopal commented on the delay in the arrest, stating that the Kerala Police are capable of controlling such people.
