Brazilian football icon Ronaldinho Gaúcho has joined Ravenna, a club in Italy's third division, at 46 years old. The move marks his return to professional football more than a decade after his last official match with Fluminense in September 2015. Ronaldinho arrived in Italy on Thursday via private jet and was presented to approximately 6,000 fans at Marina di Ravenna.
Under an agreement announced in June, Ronaldinho will become a shareholder in the club and will wear the number 10 jersey. Ravenna President Ignazio Cipriani, a long time friend of the player, stated that the goal is for Ronaldinho to score his final career goal. Ronaldinho expressed his happiness to be with friends and noted that he feels in good shape, adding that scoring his 300th goal would be a beautiful achievement.
Despite the presentation, Ronaldinho will not play in the Serie C season opener against Reggiana on Monday. He stated that his actual playing time will be decided by the coach and the president. Ravenna finished third in Group B last season and is currently seeking promotion to Serie B, a league they have not competed in since 2008.
