Russian Drone Attacks Target Kyiv Warehouses and Kill at Least 10 Across Ukraine

Russian forces killed at least 10 people and injured 43 others across Ukraine over a 24 hour period ending August 28. A significant portion of the assault involved an all day barrage of drones targeting the outskirts of Kyiv, where Russian forces struck warehouses belonging to Ukrainian businesses. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 164 Shahed type drones overnight on August 28, including several jet powered models. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 137 of these drones, though strikes were recorded at 16 locations. In the Kyiv region, Governor Tymur Tkachenko reported that 14 warehouses, 16 houses, and three apartment buildings were damaged. One person was killed and two were injured in the Kyiv Oblast attacks. Dmytro Feliksov, founder of the Readeat bookstore chain, noted that a warehouse storing books for several publishers was among the targets.

Casualties were reported in multiple other regions. In Kharkiv Oblast, two people were killed and four injured. In Sumy Oblast, a woman and a man were killed. In Kherson Oblast, one person died and 11 were injured. In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, a woman was killed and six others were injured, including four people wounded when a drone struck an Epicenter hypermarket. In Donetsk Oblast, one person was killed and three injured, while two people died in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotskyj stated that Russian attacks have destroyed approximately 90 percent of the modern warehouse and logistics facilities used by the country's food chains. He clarified that there is no danger of famine and that Ukrainians will not run out of food.
