- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Seoul stocks opened sharply higher on Thursday following robust second quarter earnings from Nvidia that exceeded Wall Street expectations. The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (Kospi) rose 159.24 points, or 2.34 percent, to reach 6,967.45. Nvidia reported that sales more than doubled from the previous year and projected that fiscal 2028 income will grow by 70 percent. These results helped ease investor concerns regarding a potential artificial intelligence bubble and a slowdown in semiconductor demand. Major market heavyweights saw gains, with SK hynix rising 4.15 percent and Samsung Electronics advancing 3.06 percent. LG Energy Solutions climbed 3.85 percent and Hanwha Aerospace rose 2.39 percent, while Hyundai Motor dipped 0.25 percent. The Korean won traded at 1,384.8 won against the US dollar, an increase of 1.5 won from the previous session. Investors are also awaiting a rate decision from the Bank of Korea scheduled for later in the day. This trend mirrored a broader regional movement as Asian stocks rose for a third consecutive day.
