A helicopter carrying six tourists and a pilot crashed on Wednesday morning in Kenya's Samburu county, killing all seven people on board. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority reported that the accident occurred at 9.13 am local time. The aircraft had departed from the Loisaba wildlife reserve and crashed at the foot of Mount Ololokwe, a peak approximately 2,000 meters high that is considered sacred by the Samburu people.
Local media and aviation officials confirmed there were no survivors. The helicopter was operated by Tropic Air, a local safari company, and was transporting tourists for a scenic flight. The luxury travel operator &Beyond confirmed to Reuters that guests of the company were on the aircraft. Video shared on social media showed black smoke billowing from the crash site. Authorities have opened an investigation into the cause of the accident, which remains undetermined.
