- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a prominent Sikh separatist and general counsel for Sikhs For Justice, stated that the FBI and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have warned him of a new credible threat to his life. Pannun, who holds dual US and Canadian citizenship, said FBI agents visited him on August 12 and advised him not to travel until the threat is resolved. He added that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police warned him via telephone on Tuesday. Neither law enforcement agency has provided specific details regarding the plot or responded to requests for comment.
Pannun noted that these warnings were issued under the US Duty to Warn law, which requires agencies to notify individuals of specific threats of kidnapping, murder, or severe bodily harm. This development follows a previous 2023 assassination plot. Nikhil Gupta, a man from India, pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy charges in February for plotting to kill Pannun. The FBI stated that Gupta was directed by an Indian government employee to carry out the killing, though Gupta unwittingly communicated with an undercover officer posing as a hitman. Gupta is scheduled for sentencing in a Manhattan federal court on November 20.
