Son Heung-min Named MVP in MLS All-Star Game Victory

Son Heung-min was named the MVP of the Major League Soccer (MLS) All-Star Game after scoring two goals to lead the MLS All-Stars to a 4-3 victory over the Liga MX All-Stars. The match took place on Wednesday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Son, who plays for Los Angeles Football Club and captained his side during the exhibition match, scored both goals in a three minute span during the first half. Both goals were assisted by Carles Gil. The first goal leveled the score after Luis Gabriel Rey had given Liga MX an early lead nine minutes into the game. The second goal put the MLS All-Stars ahead.

Other goals for the MLS side were scored by Philip Zinckernagel and Evander da Silva Ferreira. For Liga MX, Salomon Rondon and Jose Paradela added to Rey's initial goal. The game was attended by 35,197 people. Lionel Messi of Inter Miami did not participate in the event because Argentina made a deep run in the World Cup before falling to Spain in the finals.

Son described the experience as a pure joy and noted that his teammates set up the goals perfectly. Hany Mukhtar of Nashville FC praised Son as a world class player. Additionally, Charlotte is utilizing the event to position itself as a potential host for the 2031 Women's FIFA World Cup while its stadium undergoes a 1.3 billion dollar renovation project.
