South Korea Declines Anti-Aircraft Aid as Zelensky Warns of North Korean Support for Russia

South Korea has ruled out the delivery of anti-aircraft defense systems to Kyiv. This decision follows a call from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for Seoul to support Ukraine, as he claims Russia is benefiting from North Korean human and material reinforcement. Zelensky further alleged that Russia is preparing to bring in as many as 50,000 additional North Korean troops to join the war. He stated that cooperation with Russia is enhancing North Korea's weapons and combat experience, which he describes as a growing threat to regional countries.

Simultaneously, North Korea has deepened its military ties with Russia and China, joining them in criticizing Japan's defense policies. North Korean state media and Kim Yo-jong have issued multiple statements accusing Japan of nuclear ambitions and using its Defense White Paper to justify remilitarization. These actions include criticizing a Tomahawk cruise missile test launch by Japan. Experts and South Korean officials view this converging rhetoric from Beijing, Moscow, and Pyongyang as an effort to pressure Tokyo, which is a key part of the military cooperation between South Korea, the United States, and Japan.
