South Korea's science ministry announced on Friday that it has selected three consortia, led by SK Telecom Co. KT Corp. and Kakao Corp. to develop an artificial intelligence service accessible to all citizens. This selection is part of the government's AI for all initiative, which aims to establish an AI basic society where services are available regardless of digital literacy, age, or income. The project was initiated in July, and six consortia applied before the application window closed in mid August.

The selected teams will receive a total of 512 B200 graphics processing units from Nvidia. The ministry of science and ICT stated that government budgets will cover the expenses required to roll out the service next year. To ensure domestic development, the ministry requires that at least 50 percent of the system utilizes domestic AI models that meet independent foundation model standards.

The science ministry intends to sign agreements with each consortium next month. The official launch of the services is expected to occur by the end of the year.
