The South Korean Coast Guard seized eight Chinese fishing boats off the west coast on Tuesday for anchoring in the area for an extended period without permission. The Central Regional Coast Guard reported that the vessels were located near Yeonpyeong Island and are charged with violating the Ship Act and the Public Waters Management and Reclamation Act. Of the eight ships, three were unmanned and ten crew members were aboard the others. The seizure operations occurred in two stages at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Coast Guard officials intend to escort the vessels and investigate if they were involved in illegal fishing operations.
