South Korean Religious Groups Pledge Aid and Condolences Following Nepal Floods

Major religious communities in South Korea have expressed condolences and announced relief efforts following devastating flash floods and landslides in Nepal and the Himalayan border region. Protestant, Catholic, and Buddhist organizations have all issued statements offering prayers for the victims and pledging support for restoration and rescue operations.

The United Christian Churches of Korea stated it is consulting with missionaries and the local Korean community to support restoration. The National Council of Churches in Korea also offered condolences and linked the disaster to the global climate crisis, stating that the event reflects a human responsibility to address climate warming.

The Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism announced an emergency fundraising campaign through its Social Welfare Foundation and the Beautiful Togetherness organization. Meanwhile, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul expressed consolation for those affected and is reviewing emergency relief support through Caritas Internationalis, the global humanitarian network of the Catholic Church.

The disaster centered on the Rasuwa district in northern Nepal near the Tibetan border, where the destruction of roads, bridges, and power infrastructure has hampered search and rescue efforts.
