Southport Killer Axel Rudakubana Charged with Assaulting Prison Staff

Axel Rudakubana, the man convicted of killing three young girls in Southport, has been charged with multiple assaults on prison staff and possession of an offensive weapon. The Metropolitan Police stated that the charges relate to incidents occurring in 2025 at HMP Belmarsh. Specifically, Rudakubana is charged with assault on an emergency worker on May 6, attempted grievous bodily harm on May 8, possession of an offensive weapon on June 26, and another assault on an emergency worker on October 28. One report alleges he used a kettle to pour boiling water over a prison officer in May. The now 19 year old is scheduled to appear at London's Westminster Magistrates' Court on September 11. Rudakubana is currently serving a minimum sentence of 52 years for the July 2024 murders of Bebe King, age six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, age seven, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, age nine, at a Taylor Swift themed dance event. The attack also wounded ten other people. It was recently reported that Rudakubana was transferred to Broadmoor, a high security psychiatric hospital, following psychiatric assessments. A Ministry of Justice spokesperson stated that this transfer does not alter his sentence. While center left reporting describes the transfer as a standard procedure for offenders with mental health disorders who cannot be managed in prison, center right reporting notes that the victims' families viewed the move as an attempt to manipulate the system.
